Sr. Engineer / Engineer – SMS (Electrical) – Shift In-Charge (Utility Area & Cranes) Job at Lloyds Metals & Energy Ltd

Key Responsibilities:

1. Shift Electrical Operations & Supervision:

• Act as Electrical Shift In-Charge for utility areas and all SMS cranes. 
• Ensure uninterrupted electrical availability for critical utility systems and crane operations during the shift. 
• Supervise electricians and contract manpower, allocate shift jobs, and monitor work execution. 
• Respond promptly to electrical faults and restore systems with minimum downtime.

2. Crane Electrical Systems Maintenance:

• Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems of EOT cranes, ladle cranes, charging cranes, and auxiliary hoists. 
• Handle crane electrical components including: 
• LT panels, MCCs, contactors, relays, brakes, limit switches 
• VFDs, master controllers, encoders, pendant and cabin controls 
• Long travel, cross travel, and hoist drive systems 
• Ensure proper functioning of safety interlocks, overload protection, emergency stops, and anti-collision systems. 
• Coordinate periodic inspection, testing, and statutory certification of cranes. 

3. Utility Electrical Systems Maintenance:

• Ensure smooth operation of electrical systems related to SMS utilities such as: 
• Cooling water pumps, DM water systems 
• Air compressors, blowers, ventilation and fume extraction systems 
• Oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and other gas handling systems (electricals) 
• Monitor motor health, panel conditions, and electrical parameters. 
• Maintain control panels, field instruments, PLC panels, and interlocks for utility systems.

4. Preventive Maintenance & Reliability:

• Execute shift-wise preventive maintenance activities for cranes and utility electrical equipment. 
• Carry out inspections, tightening, cleaning, testing, and minor corrective actions. 
• Identify recurring failures and support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and corrective/preventive measures. 
• Ensure availability and proper use of critical electrical spares during the shift. 

5. Safety, Compliance & Housekeeping:

• Enforce electrical safety standards, LOTO procedures, PPE usage, and safe work practices. 
• Conduct shift toolbox talks and safety inspections. 
• Ensure compliance with statutory norms related to crane electrical systems and utilities. 
• Maintain 5S and good housekeeping standards in electrical rooms and work areas. 

6. Coordination & Reporting:

• Coordinate with SMS operations, mechanical maintenance, utilities, and production teams for smooth operations. 
• Maintain shift logbooks, breakdown reports, PM checklists, and spares consumption records. 
• Escalate critical issues to seniors and provide recommendations for improvement. 
• Support internal and external audits related to electrical maintenance and safety. 

Skills:

• Strong troubleshooting skills for crane and utility electrical systems. 
• Proficiency in LT panels, MCCs, VFDs, motors, and crane control circuits. 
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, crane wiring diagrams, and SLDs. 
• Good fault analysis and quick restoration capability during breakdowns. 

Abilities:

• Ability to independently handle shift responsibilities in a continuous process industry. 
• Ability to work in hot, hazardous, and high-pressure steel plant environments. 
• Ability to manage technicians and contract manpower effectively. 
• Ability to take quick decisions during emergency situations. 

Knowledge:

• In-depth knowledge of EOT crane electrical systems and statutory safety requirements. 
• Knowledge of utility electrical systems used in iron and steel plants. 
• Understanding of electrical safety standards, crane regulations, and ISO systems. 
• Familiarity with SAP/CMMS or similar systems for maintenance reporting (preferred).
