Key Responsibilities
1. Roll Shop Operations:
- Supervise roll grinding, grooving, inspection, and assembly in line with production schedules.
- Set up roll pass assemblies and ensure proper mounting for each rolling campaign.
- Monitor roll wear and surface quality; coordinate corrective actions to enhance roll life and reduce surface defects.
- Maintain records of roll inventory, usage, re-grooving cycles, and roll performance.
- Coordinate with production and quality teams for feedback on roll behavior and surface issues.
- Ensure roll balancing, alignment, and surface finishing meet defined tolerances.
2. Guide Shop Operations:
- Oversee guide preparation, inspection, and setup for all rolling stands.
- Monitor guide wear, alignment, and lubrication systems to ensure smooth rolling.
- Plan guide availability for each product size and campaign.
- Maintain guide inventory and support guide reconditioning or fabrication as needed.
- Analyze guide failure modes and implement improvements to enhance guide life and reduce cobbles.
3. Mechanical Workshop Management:
- Supervise machining, fabrication, and repair work related to WRM mechanical components.
- Operate and manage workshop machines (lathe, milling, grinding, drilling, and welding).
- Plan and execute repair and reconditioning of roll and guide assemblies.
- Maintain workshop tool inventory and ensure equipment is calibrated and in good condition.
- Support urgent maintenance or fabrication needs during breakdowns or planned shutdowns.
4. Equipment Maintenance & Reliability:
- Implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs for roll grinders, balancing machines, and other workshop tools.
- Ensure high machine uptime through coordination with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation departments.
- Assist in troubleshooting and failure analysis to prevent recurrence of repetitive issues.
- Maintain documentation of maintenance schedules, breakdown history, and reliability reports.
5. Safety, Quality & Environment:
- Enforce adherence to safety procedures for all personnel working in roll, guide, and workshop areas.
- Conduct regular toolbox talks and hazard identification exercises.
- Ensure compliance with PPE usage, safe material handling, and lockout–tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Maintain high housekeeping and 5S standards across all shop floors.
- Comply with environmental norms for waste disposal, coolant management, and noise control.
6. Process Optimization & Reporting:
- Monitor roll and guide performance data and recommend improvements for cost reduction.
- Support productivity enhancement and quality improvement initiatives.
- Record and report daily activities, downtime analysis, and maintenance performance to reporting authority.
- Participate in internal audits, management reviews, and technical evaluations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement projects related to tool life, downtime, and product consistency.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgical /Production Engineering
Experience:
- Engineer: 3–6 years of relevant experience in Roll Shop, Guide Shop, or Workshop operations in a Wire Rod Mill / Bar Mill (≥0.5 MTPA).
- Sr. Engineer: 6–10 years of relevant experience in WRM mechanical operations, maintenance, and supervision.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of WRM roll and guide systems (Danieli / Morgan / SMS / KOCKS type).
- Strong understanding of roll pass setup, guide alignment, and rolling mechanics.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical maintenance, shop machining, and balancing equipment.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance, TPM, and reliability systems.
- Familiarity with ISO, IATF, and 5S standards.
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret technical data and suggest improvements.
- Proficiency in MS Office and SAP / ERP systems.
- Strong communication, team coordination, and leadership skills.
