1. CDQ System Operation & Monitoring:
- Operate and monitor the Coke Dry Quenching (CDQ) system through
- PLC/DCS/SCADA to ensure stable and efficient operation.
- Maintain process parameters such as:
- Coke temperature at CDQ inlet and outlet,
- Circulating gas temperature, pressure, and flow,
- Steam generation rate and pressure, and
- Waste heat recovery efficiency.
- Ensure uniform cooling of coke without breakage or dust loss.
- Coordinate with Coke Oven Battery for hot coke pushing schedule and timely transfer to CDQ.
- Support shift-wise operation to achieve optimum steam generation and coke temperature control.
2. Process Control & Optimization:
- Continuously monitor CDQ performance and take corrective actions in case of deviations.
- Analyze process data and support trials for fuel rate reduction, steam generation improvement, and heat loss minimization.
- Assist in fine-tuning control logic and interlocks in coordination with Instrumentation and Automation teams.
- Support initiatives for energy efficiency and process improvement.
3. Coordination with Other Sections:
- Coordinate with:
- Coke Oven Battery – for synchronized coke pushing and transfer.
- Power Plant / Utility Team – for steam and power utilization.
- Maintenance (Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation) – for equipment upkeep and reliability.
- By-Product Plant (BPP) – for gas recovery and environmental control.
- Communicate process abnormalities and assist in troubleshooting.
4. Equipment Operation & Reliability:
- Operate and monitor the following key equipment:
- CDQ cooling chamber, waste heat boiler, gas circulation fans, dust collectors, and conveyors.
- Monitor vibrations, temperatures, and pressures to prevent equipment failures.
- Coordinate with maintenance for preventive and corrective actions.
- Assist during shutdowns, startups, and equipment inspections.
5. Safety, Health & Environment:
- Ensure strict compliance with CDQ safety protocols and oxygen-deficient area norms.
- Follow PPE, LOTO, confined space, and hot work procedures.
- Monitor and minimize dust emissions, gas leaks, and coke spillage.
- Maintain area housekeeping and support ISO 45001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 9001 compliance.
- Participate in safety audits, incident reporting, and near-miss analysis.
6. Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain daily log sheets for:
- CDQ operating parameters,
- Steam generation and consumption,
- Equipment running hours and downtime,
- Coke temperature data and efficiency reports.
- Prepare shift and daily performance reports.
- Support KPI and monthly performance review documentation.
7. Technical & Process Support:
- Support Sr. Manager / Manager in process studies and technical audits.
- Provide data for process optimization, energy audits, and improvement projects.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) of process upsets or equipment failures.
Qualifications:
- B.E. / B.Tech / Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Chemical / Electrical / Production Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Strong understanding of Coke Oven operations, heat recovery systems, and boiler principles.
Experience:
- Engineer / Sr. Engineer: 3–7 years of experience in Coke Oven and CDQ operations in an integrated steel plant.
- Assistant Manager: 7–10 years of experience in CDQ / heat recovery / boiler operations in Coke Oven or similar process industries.
- Hands-on experience with PLC/DCS-based systems preferred.
- Experience with large-capacity batteries (≥0.5 MTPA) desirable.
Technical Skills:
- Operation and control of CDQ system, heat recovery boiler, and gas circulation system.
- Understanding of thermodynamic cycles and energy balance.
- Familiarity with instrumentation (temperature, pressure, flow) and automation (PLC/DCS).
- Basic knowledge of steam system management and utility coordination.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SAP (PM/MM modules), and process data analysis tools.
