Flipkart is hiring for the role of Site Reliability Engineer 2!
Responsibilities of the Candidate:
- Infrastructure Automation: Design and implement automated provisioning, scaling, monitoring, and recovery solutions for Hadoop/HDFS and Dataproc clusters on GCP using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform).
- Data Pipeline Resilience: Own the end-to-end reliability of high-volume, low-latency Kafka pipelines, ensuring fault tolerance, durability, and smooth data flow to downstream processing layers.
- Performance Optimization: Deeply tune and optimize the performance of batch jobs by advising on optimal storage formats (Parquet, ORC) and table definitions (Iceberg, Delta Lake) to minimize I/O and compute consumption.
- Toil Reduction: Develop software and scripts to automate recurring operational tasks, capacity planning, and configuration management across the data platform.
- Monitoring & Observability: Establish comprehensive Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Service Level Indicators (SLIs) for the data processing infrastructure, building advanced alerting and dashboarding solutions.
- Incident Management: Respond to and resolve complex incidents affecting data platform availability or integrity, performing blameless post-mortems to drive permanent systemic improvements.
Requirements:
- Experience: 2-5 years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or Software Engineering focused on large-scale data platforms.
- Data Ecosystem Expertise: Extensive, hands-on experience with Hadoop ecosystem components (HDFS, YARN, Hive, Spark).
- Cloud Data Services: Strong working knowledge of managed cloud data services, particularly Dataproc/Spark on GCP or equivalent (e.g., EMR/Databricks).
- Streaming Knowledge: Proven ability to manage and optimize Kafka clusters and build reliable data ingestion pipelines.
- Storage Formats: Solid understanding of data lake table formats and their trade-offs (Iceberg, Delta, Hive) and columnar storage formats (Parquet, ORC).
- Programming & Scripting: Strong proficiency in at least one object-oriented language (e.g., Java, Scala, Python) for automation and tooling development.
- Automation: Experience with configuration management (Ansible, Puppet) and IaC (Terraform).
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
