Microsoft is hiring for the role of Product Manager!

Responsibilities of the Candidate:

  • Contribute to identifying customers’ unmet or unknown needs and market opportunities for enhancements or development of a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service) via quantitative (e.g., usage, telemetry) and qualitative analyses (e.g., customer usage, various listening systems, and feedback channels of market and industry trends), and scopes the impact and prioritization of a problem with minimal guidance.
  • Engage in direct 1:1 (e.g., visits, interviews) or many (e.g., social media, events) customer engagements to solicit feedback and understand their experiences with Microsoft’s products and services using industry-accepted methods (e.g., Moneyball). Collaborates with others to perform market or user research in collaboration with the User Research team, conduct competitive analyses, and examine market and industry trends as well as industry-specific requirements or regulations.
  • Understand and start building experiences across groups of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service). Develops problem statements and forms hypotheses of a new group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service) to address customer needs and/or market opportunities; identifies dependencies of other feature areas.
  • Perform experiments to test hypotheses and inform decisions on what new features or feature areas (e.g., product, service) to introduce, in collaboration with others.
  • Establish clarity of the root problem and how it relates with previously seen trends with the customer. Works with minimal guidance to ensure alignment between the customer, the market, and the goals of a group of features or feature areas and the strategy of Microsoft.
  • Collaborate with others (e.g., Software Engineering [SWE], Hardware Engineering [HWE], Product Marketing, Design) to ensure that they can satisfy customer requirements. Partners to validate the market size and opportunity to determine products or features of greatest value.
  • Define solution options for a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service).
  • Partner with SWE, HWE, and senior colleagues in refinement sessions to synthesize hypothesis results into solutions tied with Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) and Key
  • Work on a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service) and may own a feature.
  • Collaborate with others to help write the product framing/vision memo, create user stories and epics, and design integrated scenarios. Collaborates with others (e.g., Business Planning, Finance, Support, Customers, Product Marketing) to identify the potential customer base.
  • Communicate product strategy to internal customers and build consensus through multiple methods (e.g., conference presentations, and collaboration with partner organizations).
  • Drive and track success criteria and performance metrics (e.g., Objectives and Key Results [OKRs], Key Performance Indicators [KPIs] such as engagement, usage, acquisition, revenue, profitability, and in-project features) and provide clarity on fundamentals (e.g., quality, privacy, security, compliance, accessibility, cost of goods sold [COGS]) of a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service).
  • Work with Software Engineering (SWE) and Hardware Engineering (HWE) to identify needed data and ensure needed telemetry is developed and obtained responsibly and compliantly; reports and explicates reasons for outcomes. Understand the COGS of a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service) and the KPIs that will help influence profitability. 
  • Identify OKRs for a group of features or feature areas and ensure alignment of the features with product-level OKRs.
  • Partner with others to identify data-informed, short-term investment opportunities, evaluate tradeoffs, and prioritize investments in consultation with cross-functional partners for a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service). Collaborates with others to determine features or experiences to prioritize in the roadmap that will support the achievement of success criteria and 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional internal partners, and external partners, including early adopting customers, group managers, and other key stakeholders to gather input and garner support for product/service vision, strategy, and roadmap for a group of features/feature areas.
  • Collaborate to gain buy-in and alignment. Solicits input from others regarding priorities and resources needed to deliver desired outcomes for a group of features or feature areas (e.g., product, service).
