Key Responsibilities
1. Hydraulic System Operation & Maintenance:
- Oversee the operation and maintenance of all hydraulic systems in the WRM, including pumps, valves, manifolds, accumulators, cylinders, and piping networks.
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to minimize unplanned downtime.
- Monitor system pressures, oil flow, temperature, and filtration levels to maintain equipment reliability.
- Diagnose and resolve hydraulic leaks, seal failures, pressure fluctuations, and actuator malfunctions.
- Ensure correct setting and calibration of hydraulic control valves, proportional valves, and servo systems.
- Plan and supervise overhauling, oil flushing, and commissioning activities during shutdowns.
2. Lubrication System Management:
- Ensure continuous functioning of centralized and individual lubrication systems across mill stands, gearboxes, and drives.
- Monitor oil and grease flow, temperature, and quality to ensure proper lubrication of mechanical components.
- Implement oil sampling and analysis programs for monitoring contamination and wear particles.
- Plan replenishment, filtration, and disposal of lubricants in compliance with environmental norms.
- Ensure effective maintenance of oil reservoirs, filters, pumps, pipelines, and manifolds.
3. Reliability & System Optimization:
- Analyze failure trends and develop root cause analysis (RCA) reports for recurring issues.
- Implement reliability improvement initiatives (RBI, RCM, TPM) for hydraulic and lubrication systems.
- Coordinate with OEMs and vendors for technical support, upgrades, and optimization projects.
- Drive initiatives to improve energy efficiency and reduce oil consumption and maintenance costs.
- Maintain documentation for all system parameters, drawings, and performance records.
4. Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- Enforce strict compliance with plant safety procedures, lockout-tagout (LOTO), and PPE usage.
- Conduct safety inspections and toolbox talks for the hydraulic and lubrication maintenance team.
- Ensure oil handling, storage, and disposal are performed as per ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 standards.
- Promote and implement 5S, TPM, and continuous improvement practices in hydraulic and lubrication areas.
- Conduct training sessions for maintenance personnel on hydraulic safety and preventive maintenance best practices.
5. Coordination & Documentation:
- Coordinate with mill operation, electrical, instrumentation, and utility teams for maintenance planning.
- Ensure availability of critical spares, tools, and consumables through coordination with the stores and purchase department.
- Maintain shift logs, breakdown reports, and preventive maintenance checklists.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly performance and reliability reports.
- Participate in internal and external audits related to maintenance and safety systems.
6. Team Management & Development:
- Supervise and mentor engineers, supervisors, and technicians in the hydraulic and lubrication sections.
- Develop skill enhancement programs for maintenance crew on system troubleshooting and safe work practices.
- Allocate manpower efficiently for shift and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, discipline, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Production Engineering
Experience:
- Deputy Manager: 10–14 years of experience in hydraulic and lubrication system maintenance in WRM / Bar Mill / Long Product Mills in an integrated steel plant.
- Manager: 14–18 years of relevant experience including team handling, system upgrades, and reliability projects.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of hydraulic systems (pumps, valves, actuators, accumulators) and lubrication circuits.
- Strong understanding of maintenance practices, troubleshooting, and system diagnostics.
- Familiar with OEM systems (e.g., Danieli, Morgan, SMS, Kocks).
- Knowledge of hydraulic and lubrication instrumentation and control interfaces (PLC/SCADA).
- Experience in oil analysis, contamination control, and system reliability improvement.
- Good analytical, planning, and documentation skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SAP (PM Module), and CMMS tools.
- Excellent leadership, coordination, and communication skills.
