- Monitor and control hot metal and slag tapping operations in accordance with the blast furnace tapping schedule.
- Supervise the opening and closing of tapholes, drilling, and plugging activities ensuring minimum delay and safety.
- Coordinate with furnace control room for cast timings and pressure conditions.
- Ensure smooth metal flow to torpedo ladles or mixers with minimal spillage and loss.
- Manage slag granulation or pit casting operations as per process requirements.
- Maintain records of each cast — time, duration, metal/slag output, temperature, and abnormalities.
2. Runner & Refractory Management:
- Inspect and maintain cast house runner systems, troughs, and skimmer arrangements.
- Supervise relining, patching, and dressing of runners and troughs.
- Plan and monitor the performance and life of cast house refractories.
- Coordinate with refractory maintenance for timely repairs and relining.
3. Equipment & Utility Management
- Ensure proper functioning of cast house equipment like mud guns, tap hole drills, metal/slag runners, tilting runners, and granulation systems.
- Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation teams for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Monitor granulation water flow, pressure, and recovery systems.
4. Safety & Environment:
- Implement and maintain strict safety practices for personnel and equipment in the cast house area.
- Ensure compliance with PPE usage, hot metal handling protocols, and housekeeping standards.
- Adhere to environmental norms related to slag disposal, dust suppression, and water discharge.
5. Process Optimization:
- Analyze cast performance data and work on improving cast duration, metal yield, and tap-to-tap time.
- Participate in root cause analysis for cast house-related failures or downtime.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity and reduce cost.
6. Coordination & Reporting:
- Liaise with Furnace Control Room, Steel Melting Shop (SMS), and Maintenance teams for synchronized operations.
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on cast performance and refractory life.
- Support audits, inspections, and management reviews as required.
