- Coordinate with the control room to monitor rolling loads, speeds, and temperature profiles.
- Identify and respond promptly to process abnormalities or mechanical issues.
2. Equipment Monitoring & Maintenance Coordination:
- Inspect mill stands, drives, gearboxes, chocks, bearings, and hydraulic systems, during shifts.
- Coordinate with mechanical and electrical maintenance teams for preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Ensure lubrication systems, cooling water lines, and guide mechanisms are functioning effectively.
- Assist in mill stand change, roll change, and setup activities as per production planning.
- Record and report equipment performance, breakdowns, and corrective actions taken.
3. Production & Quality Assurance:
- Achieve targeted production tonnage with minimal downtime and quality rejections.
- Monitor rolling dimensions, tolerances, and surface quality of billets and intermediate rods.
- Follow instructions from quality control for adjusting rolling parameters to maintain standards.
- Ensure adherence to grade-wise rolling parameters and pass design specifications.
- Participate in trials of new products or pass schedules and document the results.
4. Safety, Housekeeping & Environment
- Enforce strict compliance with plant safety rules and PPE usage during mill operations.
- Conduct pre-start safety checks and ensure safe handling of tools and equipment.
- Maintain proper housekeeping in and around the mill area.
- Support implementation of 5S and TPM practices for mill improvement.
- Report unsafe acts, conditions, and participate in safety audits and training.
5. Coordination & Documentation:
- Liaise with roll shop, guide shop, and workshop teams for roll and guide availability and adjustments.
- Coordinate with the control room, reheating furnace, and finishing sections for uninterrupted operation.
- Maintain shift reports on mill performance, downtime, and production data.
- Assist in root cause analysis for mill-related failures or process deviations.
