Key Responsibilities
1. Electrical System Operation & Maintenance
- Ensure uninterrupted power supply and safe operation of all electrical systems within the Blast Furnace complex.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of HT/LT switchgear, transformers, motors, MCCs, AC/DC drives, lighting, and earthing systems.
- Manage preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance of electrical equipment to minimize downtime.
- Ensure healthiness of UPS systems, DG sets, and emergency power systems for critical areas.
- Conduct regular energy audits and implement energy-saving initiatives.
2. Blast Furnace & Auxiliary System Support
- Provide electrical support for major blast furnace subsystems including:
- Cast House (mud gun, tap hole drill, tilting runner, slag granulation system)
- Stock House (weigh hoppers, conveyors, screeners, feeders, and bins)
- Cooling Water Systems
- Blower House / Turbo Blowers / Compressors
- Hydraulic and Pneumatic Systems
- Instrumentation Interfaces (with PLC, SCADA, and DCS systems)
- Ensure effective coordination with Instrumentation and Mechanical teams for cross-functional maintenance activities.
3. Project Implementation & Modifications:
- Plan and execute electrical system upgrades, expansions, and modernization projects for the Blast Furnace.
- Review and approve technical specifications, drawings, and vendor documentation.
- Coordinate with OEMs, EPC contractors, and suppliers for project execution and commissioning.
- Monitor project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
4. Preventive Maintenance & Reliability:
- Establish and implement a robust Preventive Maintenance (PM) schedule for all electrical assets.
- Conduct equipment reliability studies (MTBF/MTTR analysis) and implement improvement plans.
- Drive condition monitoring programs (thermography, insulation resistance, vibration, etc.).
- Ensure proper documentation of maintenance records and equipment history in SAP / CMMS.
5. Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety standards (IS/IEC) and plant safety procedures.
- Ensure implementation of Lockout-Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and training for team members.
- Ensure compliance with statutory norms and liaison with external agencies (e.g., Electrical Inspectorate).
6. Team Leadership & Training:
- Lead and motivate a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians to achieve maintenance and reliability goals.
- Develop and mentor team members through skill enhancement and performance evaluation.
- Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
7. Cost & Inventory Management:
- Control electrical maintenance budget and ensure cost optimization without compromising safety or reliability.
- Manage spares and consumables inventory, ensuring availability of critical components.
- Drive initiatives for indigenous development of spare parts and cost reduction.
Qualifications & Experience::
- Education: B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering (mandatory).
- Experience:
- AGM: 15–20 years of experience in electrical maintenance of large blast furnace units or integrated steel plants.
- DGM: 20–25 years of experience including leadership in commissioning, operations, and maintenance of blast furnace electrical systems.
- Industry: Integrated Steel Plant / Iron Making Division / Heavy Process Industry (continuous operation).
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in HT/LT power systems, AC/DC drives, PLC/DCS interfaces, motors, and MCC panels.
- Sound knowledge of electrical load management, power factor improvement, and energy optimization.
- Familiar with Siemens / ABB / Allen Bradley control systems and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex electrical faults.
- Experience in handling shutdown planning, project commissioning, and reliability programs.
- Familiar with SAP, MS Office, and plant maintenance modules.
