1. Electrical Operation & Maintenance:
- Ensure reliable operation and maintenance of all electrical equipment in EAF, LF, VD, HM Transfer, and RMHS areas.
- Supervise HT/LT substations, furnace transformers, furnace power supply systems, electrode regulation systems, switchgear, and MCCs.
- Monitor and maintain the performance of electrical drives, motors, control panels, PLC/SCADA systems, and power distribution networks.
- Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to ensure maximum uptime and equipment life.
- Support safe and reliable operation during furnace start-ups, shutdowns, and process transitions.
2. Furnace Power System Management:
- Ensure smooth functioning of EAF and LF transformer operations, including tap changer control, power factor monitoring, and current regulation.
- Maintain electrode control systems and ensure proper calibration and protection settings.
- Optimize electrical parameters such as arc stability, power-on time, and transformer load factor to improve energy efficiency.
- Troubleshoot electrical faults in EAF/LF/VD to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with automation and instrumentation teams for system tuning and logic optimization.
3. Raw Material Handling System (RMHS) & Hot Metal Handling:
- Ensure reliable operation of conveyors, screens, feeders, weigh hoppers, and transfer systems in RMHS.
- Maintain electrical systems for crane operations, hydraulic drives, and control panels in the hot metal and scrap charging areas.
- Oversee proper functioning of electrical interlocks, sequencing, and safety devices across RMHS and HM systems.
- Coordinate with mechanical teams for system integration and process reliability.
4. Energy Management & Power Optimization:
- Monitor and analyze power consumption across EAF, LF, VD, and auxiliary systems.
- Implement energy-saving initiatives, including power factor improvement, reduction in no-load losses, and efficient load management.
- Liaise with the central utility and energy departments for power allocation and optimization.
- Maintain and update single line diagrams (SLDs) and electrical documentation.
5. Safety & Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to electrical safety standards, PPE usage, and Lockout–Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Ensure compliance with statutory requirements under Indian Electricity Rules (IE Rules), CEA regulations, and the Factory Act.
- Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations for all SMS electrical installations.
- Maintain proper earthing, lightning protection, and insulation systems across all electrical installations.
- Promote 5S, ISO 45001, and environmental compliance (ISO 14001) practices.
6. Maintenance Planning & Reliability Improvement:
- Prepare and implement preventive, predictive, and shutdown maintenance plans for all major electrical equipment.
- Carry out Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for equipment failures and develop corrective action plans.
- Maintain updated records of equipment health, breakdowns, and downtime trends.
- Collaborate with OEMs and service providers for technical support, upgrades, and reliability improvement projects.
- Drive condition monitoring and thermography programs for critical assets.
7. Team Leadership & Coordination:
- Lead a team of engineers, supervisors, and electricians across multiple shifts.
- Assign responsibilities, monitor performance, and ensure skill development through training and mentoring.
- Coordinate with operations, mechanical, instrumentation, and automation teams for integrated plant performance.
- Ensure timely execution of jobs as per maintenance schedules and production priorities.
- Foster a culture of safety, discipline, and continuous improvement.
8. Documentation & Reporting:
- Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports on equipment availability, breakdowns, and energy consumption.
- Maintain up-to-date equipment history cards, test reports, and spare part inventory.
- Support audits, inspections, and management reviews.
- Ensure all maintenance and inspection data is recorded in SAP/CMMS systems.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
- B.E. / B.Tech in Electrical Engineering
Experience:
- Sr. Manager: 14–18 years of experience in Electrical Maintenance in Steel Melting Shop or heavy industrial electrical systems.
- AGM: 18–22 years of experience in managing high-power electrical systems in integrated steel plants (EAF/LF/VD exposure mandatory).
Key Skills & Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of EAF/LF/VD power systems, transformers, furnace power supply, and electrode regulation systems.
- Strong understanding of RMHS and Hot Metal Handling electrical systems.
- Hands-on experience in HT/LT substations, switchgear, VFDs, MCCs, and protection systems.
- Knowledge of PLC/SCADA and automation logic troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in energy management, power factor improvement, and load optimization.
- Strong focus on electrical safety, compliance, and reliability engineering.
- Effective leadership, planning, and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of SAP (PM module) and MS Office for reporting and documentation.
