Barclays is hiring for the role of Application Engineer – PySpark Developer!

Responsibilities of the Candidate:

• Design, develop and deliver high-quality software solutions using appropriate programming languages, frameworks and tools.
• Collaborate with business analysts, product managers, designers, stakeholders and other engineers to gather and define software requirements, plan solution strategies, and ensure alignment with business objectives.
• Write scalable, maintainable, and performance-optimized code.
• Participate in code reviews, ensure code quality, and share knowledge with team members.
• Implement robust unit testing and ensure code reliability and readability.
• Ensure secure coding practices to safeguard sensitive data and mitigate vulnerabilities.
• Work independently and proactively, taking ownership of delivery and driving progress with minimal supervision.
• Stay updated with industry and technology trends; contribute to technological innovation and continuous improvement within the team.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and act as a point of contact for stakeholders outside the immediate function when required.
• Embed and comply with risk, control and compliance standards — escalate breaches appropriately and advise on adoption of new policies/procedures.

Requirements:

• Hands-on programming experience in a Big Data / Hadoop ecosystem.
• Proficiency in PySpark, Hive, and/or Impala (or similar technologies).
• Exposure to NoSQL databases (for example, MongoDB or other).
• Strong familiarity with Unix / Linux shell environment.
• Experience with scheduling / workflow tools such as Airflow, AutoSys (or similar).
• Practical knowledge of CI/CD tools (e.g. Jenkins, TeamCity, GitLab).
• Understanding of Agile methodologies and tools (e.g. JIRA, Confluence).
• Excellent communication, collaboration and stakeholder interaction skills.
• Ability to work independently, take ownership and deliver with minimal supervision.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field (or equivalent).
• Certifications in Big Data or cloud technologies would be a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strategic thinking.
